About Me

I decided to create this blog one day while browsing the finance section at Borders.  I was looking from book to book, and they were all people who already had a lot of money.  They were full of strategies and techniques, for certain.  Still, some of them read more like promotional brochures than good hard advice.  On top of that, I know enough psychology to know that life always seems better and easier in retrospect.  What I wanted was more of a travelogue.  I wanted something that I could relate to, and sadly there was nothing.  I have nothing against big names like Warren Buffet, Dave Ramsey, Suze Orman, David Bach, Phil Town, or the numerous other articulate and successful writers that are on those shelves.  I just wanted something different.

So, who am I?  Well, I'm Rick, or at least that's my name.  I grew up in Chicago, went to college, graduated, got a job, worked hard, went to graduate school, graduated, got a job, worked hard...  You get the picture.  At some point, I found myself in my early 30's with two degrees, working like crazy, and just making it.  I don't live extravagantly or anything like that.  Still, I was feeling unfulfilled and like I was falling short financially and personally.

People consider me fairly smart, but I'm certainly not a member of MENSA.  Smarts, however, aren't required to be rich.  I know people who are brilliant, but poor, as well as those who are not so bright, but very wealthy.  In many ways, I think I'm a pretty average guy.  I've just made a decision to move from ordinary to extra-ordinary.  This blog is part my journey.
